At Taunton Fabrications, we understand steelwork. It's an understanding that has been developed over a twenty five year period and has established us as the leading supplier of architectural metalwork in the south of England.
Established for over 25 years, Taunton Fabrications is now well regarded as one of the leading UK manufacturers of architectural and secondary metalwork to the construction and house building sectors.
Over that period of time we have developed close working relationships with our clients and had the opportunity to be involved with them on many exciting and prestigious projects. An increasing number of our clients now recognise the importance of using our expertise in early engagement with them at tender and pre-let stages, resulting in significant cost savings. This has further developed into "BUILDOFFSITE" and partnering agreements with some clients.
Our structured organisation enables us to effectively and efficiently manage projects from the initial concept through to it’s successful completion. This high quality of management is further enhanced with our compliance to formal quality, environmental and health & safety standards. Our biggest asset is our highly skilled team of people who all contribute to our success. A culture of "continuous development" is encouraged throughout the business with employees able to make suggestions for improvements. We recognise a need for young people within the steel fabrication industry and regularly recruit apprentices. We have also developed several training programmes for staff development within the company.
We are members of the British Constructional Steelwork Association (BCSA) and received their Steel Construction Sustainability Charter status for demonstrating our commitment to environmental, health & safety and social responsibility. We have also been successful in winning many awards, both within and outside of our industry, most notably winners of the Somerset Business of the Year and West of England Business of the Year.
Our sales department provides an estimating service to a large and growing number of clients - whether your project is at tender stage, second stage of tender or under construction, Taunton Fabrications can provide a competitive quotation.
In addition to using architects specifications and drawings we also like to use our expertise to discuss individual requirements with our clients. Many projects are subject to a process of value engineering and we are always keen to be involved at the early stages - with our knowledge we can often provide a cost effective solution. If you would like to discuss your project in person we are more than happy to visit you, or alternatively, you are very welcome to visit our offices and works where we can provide a tour of our facilities – contact us now to make an appointment.
Using the very latest 3D design software, and with an extensive wealth of knowledge, the Taunton Fabrications design department will work with you and your architect, or design co-ordinator, in order to bring together and realise a solution.
Our philosophy is to identify and discuss design issues in detail at a very early stage in order to co-ordinate and interface our works with other trades on site and with consideration to CDM regulations and relevant British Standards that might apply. ISO9001:2015 & BS EN 1090-1:2009+A1:2011 are just two of the standards we have which play an important part in the design process. We have systems in place to comply with the latest BIM processes and technology that some clients now require. Our service also extends to ensure structural requirements are complied with and, once the initial proposal details are approved, we then provide construction issue drawings together with maintenance details for inclusion within your records.
Our modern, purpose built factory features over head crane capabilities of up to 10 tonnes, which enables us to handle a wide range and size of projects.
Our dedicated stainless steel workshop eliminates cross contamination between ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Work is monitored at each stage of production and we ensure that full compliance is met at all times. All of our steelwork is CE marked and manufactured in compliance with BS EN 1090-1:2009+A1:2011.
We are great advocates of the BUILDOFFSITE philosophy and have our own seperate BUILDOFFSITE facilities where the painting, finishing and pre-assembly of a wide variety of work is carried out.
Whilst BUILDOFFSITE is a cost effective model of delivering high quality metalwork, it has a number of other distinct advantages. Completing works in-house - in a controlled environment - not only ensures the quality of the workmanship, but it also enables us to pre-sling - and test lift - heavy and awkward items. BUILDOFFSITE also means a reduction in deliveries to site; meaning that there is a need for fewer associated trades, with fewer employees requiring the CSCS certification needed for on-site installation.
The contracts department at Taunton Fabrications is the key link between our design, manufacture and installation departments, and is our client’s first point of contact.
Our managers have many years of experience in both the metalwork and construction industries and, with this wealth of knowledge, can confidently tackle the most complex of projects. Regular visits to our clients sites ensures that we are always able to supply to the correct specification and meet agreed installation dates. Every contract is monitored using the latest Elecosoft project management software and all departments update and report on the progress of all contracts and elements of work on a weekly basis.
Health and safety is of paramount importance. This is managed and constantly monitored through our regular reviews with each manager, who is trained to Construction Skills Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) level.
Our work is installed using our own, directly employed staff and, at peak periods, an approved supply chain of sub-contractors. This ensures that the quality of work and health & safety is controlled and maintained at a high level at all times.
Each of our site teams has a dedicated supervisor trained to the Construction Skills Site Supervisors Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS) level who co-ordinates with the on-site managers and other trades to ensure a planned installation is achieved. To re-inforce our commitment to Health & Safety, our installation work in accordance to ISO45001:2018 and CHAS & Worksafe schemes. Tools and plant used by our site teams is closely monitored using Hilti ON!Track software that is linked to mobile apps and PC's. Our installation staff have also completed specialist training in appointed lift planning, IPAF powered access, mobile scaffold towers, coded welding and harness safety.
