Working closely with Willmot Dixon to transform the Herman Miller factory into a new state-of-the-art facility known as Locksbrook Campus.
Locksbrook Campus is a new state-of-the-art learning environment for the Bath Spa University's art and design students, creating a people-focused space that brings together different disciplines, staff, students and the public.
The building was formerly known as the Action Factory, and was used by Herman Miller as their furniture factory. It was originally designed by Sir Nicholas Grimshaw in 1976. Willmott Dixon have been working with Bath Spa University over the last few years to refurbish this Grade II listed building.
Taunton Fabrications were delighted to have completed the architectural metalwork package for this project, which included the manufacturing and installation of a large number of striking powder coated internal escape stairs with stainless steel handrail. The open-plan design of the studios, technical workshops and social areas called for a generous staircases - which had a raw finish with a wax finish - with a series of glass, stainless steel and powder coated balustrade installed to complement the open plan nature of this state-of-the-art campus.
