BBC Cymru Wales

Working closely with ISG and architects Foster + Partners, we were instructed to supply and install all of the architectural metalwork for the stunning BBC Welsh headquarters; incorporating over 200 tonnes of architectural metalwork and 700 metres of straight and curved glass.

About the Project

This £44 million total contract was completed exactly on time – 16 April 2018 - a target date set nearly four years previously. With ‘next generation’ web technology, the new broadcast centre is the centre-piece of the Central Square regeneration project and will be the first BBC facility in the UK to use live IP Technology.

A key part of this project for us was the early engagement between our design team, our client and client's architects - regular communication between all parties and the supply of pre-design samples resulted in a clear understanding of exact requirements. The internal stairs were engineered to be cantilvered over four flights and the imposing main feature stair included a 30 metre high seamless structural "fin wall" that was supplied in three steel sections.

All of the steelwork was painted in a textured matt finish at our seperate offsite build facilities and where the majority of work was then pre-assembled before delivery to site - this included all of the atrium and stair balustrade that was fitted with acoustic panels in order to control reverberated noise.
