Taunton Fabs mobilises to support Exeter Nightingale Hospital

Taunton Fabrications have been busy supplying steelwork for the new Nightingale Hospital being built on the old Homebase DIY store at Sowton Industrial Estate, Exeter.

Working to an extremely tight deadline, we have manufactured and supplied fifteen large steel section door frames that will be used in the construction of the new emergency hospital. Subsequently, and in light of this quick turn-around, BAM Construction has asked Taunton Fabs to design and manufacture eleven large roof plant decking support frames together with guardrails and walkways. Taunton Fabrications Managing Director, Jason Rigby said:

We received an urgent request from Bam just a few days ago asking if we could design, manufacture and install a number of steel frames within two weeks, ready for the hospital to open in June. Each frame measures 12m long x 3m wide and weighs approximately 3 tonnes, but by re-scheduling our work and mobilising our workforce and steel suppliers, we've been able to help out with this important work.

The 120 bed hospital will take COVID-19 patients from Devon and neighbouring counties and may be used for those recovering after a period in hospital.
